Data Platform Engineer

Job description

In this role you will help transform an established data and machine learning platform into a scalable, self‑service environment that enables engineering teams to work independently. You will build and improve deployment pipelines, infrastructure‑as‑code modules, and reusable tooling to simplify launching, managing, and maintaining data services. Working across data engineering, backend development, and infrastructure, you will contribute to reliable systems supporting a global shipping and fulfillment platform. You will join an experienced Data & AI team with solid engineering standards, gaining increasing ownership and the opportunity to lead the shared platform tooling roadmap within the first six months. You will also work in an AI‑enabled engineering culture that values technical judgment, accountability, and clear explanation of code.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience independently owning a deployment path end‑to‑end, including building pipelines, troubleshooting failures, resolving production issues, and documenting solutions
• Approximately two years or more of professional experience in software, data, platform, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Practical working knowledge of Python and SQL and regular use in engineering tasks
• Experience with CI/CD and infrastructure‑as‑code, able to understand, adapt, and improve existing implementations
• Ability to navigate unfamiliar codebases, explain functionality, identify failure points, and make sound technical judgments
• Experience with Docker and cloud concepts, especially AWS
• Willingness to work across data engineering, backend systems, and infrastructure
• Proficiency with AI coding assistants such as Copilot, Claude, or Cursor and ability to critically review generated code
• Proactive ownership mindset, accountability for modifications, and honesty about failures and lessons
• Respect for existing architectural and engineering patterns
• Ability to explain and defend technical decisions
• Motivation to learn new skills and explore unfamiliar tools
