Engineer, Mine Planning

Job description

Ensures availability of operating resources including personnel, supplies and equipment. Plans and coordinates labor and equipment utilization in line with efficiency, statutory, safety and environmental requirements. Tests validity of minable resources and conducts preliminary mineral surveys with geologists to assess ore extraction feasibility. Determines optimal ore extraction methods considering overburden depth, altitude and physical characteristics of deposits and surrounding strata. Verifies recovery processes and consults geologists, metallurgists and other engineers on design, selection and provision of machines, facilities, systems and infrastructure such as access roads, water and power supplies, and environmental protection. Estimates capital and operating viability, prepares operation and project estimates and controls expenditures when mines start production. Participates in negotiations for purchase or investment of mines. Analyzes environmental sensitivities of processes, waste, chemicals, cultural and geopolitical factors. Compiles monthly and yearly statistical production reports for management review. Assists in compliance with company Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) programs, policies and procedures. Monitors and audits activities, providing guidance to mitigate unsafe practices. Investigates incidents and provides recommendations. Ensures contractors are fully briefed on HSE regulations

Requirements
