AI/ML Engineer

Job description

This role is listed on behalf of a partner company that manages all applications and next steps. Our partner seeks an AI/ML Engineer based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. You will join a mission-driven engineering team building practical AI systems that tackle real-world challenges in healthcare, agriculture, education, and international development. You will design, build, evaluate, deploy, and continuously improve AI-powered applications used by nonprofit organizations and their communities. Solutions range from clinical copilots and AI coaching tools to agricultural advisory chatbots and evaluation infrastructure. You will collaborate with behavioral scientists, researchers, and embedded engineers to translate applied AI research into reliable, scalable products and reusable technical resources. You will also help partner organizations strengthen their AI capabilities through mentorship, open‑source contributions, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• strong foundations in mathematics, deep learning, large language models (LLMs), and modern AI systems
• at least 4 years of hands‑on machine learning engineering experience delivering end‑user deep‑learning products
• at least 1
• 2 years of experience building production‑grade LLM applications beyond proof of concept
• practical experience evaluating AI systems with solid understanding of dataset design, evaluation methodology, and performance measurement
• proficiency in Python and commitment to hands‑on implementation
• fluency in prompting and context engineering for agentic systems with ability to decide whether a problem needs better prompting, a different model, better tools, or pipeline changes
• experience using AI coding agents to produce high‑quality work, validating outputs and taking responsibility for shipped results
• ability to read research papers, assess new ideas, and quickly test relevant approaches
• experimental mindset with careful reasoning about data, models, and evaluation while making iterative, measurable progress
• strong first‑principles thinking and ability to design practical, scalable solutions
• user‑focused approach prioritizing product effectiveness for its intended audience
• proactive ownership, attention to detail, and ability to drive projects to completion without constant direction
• strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑engineering audiences
• commitment to responsible AI development delivering meaningful social benefits
• experience with multilingual NLP or low‑resource languages such as Swahili, Hindi, or languages of East Africa and South Asia (bonus)
• experience with data annotation pipelines and LLM evaluation methodologies (bonus)
• experience deploying models in production and working with cloud infrastructure (bonus)
