Manager, Exploration & Mining Artificial Intelligence

Job description

Exploration and Mining AI is essential for improving resource discovery, orebody understanding, safety, planning, productivity, efficiency, and sustainability across the employer’s mining operations. As Manager, Exploration & Mining AI, you lead the identification, development, deployment, and adoption of AI solutions across exploration, geology, resource modeling, mine planning, drilling and blasting, material movement, fleet optimization, production, and mine safety. You translate operational challenges into scalable AI solutions and collaborate with exploration, mining operations, technical services, engineering, OT, IT, Digital, and Enterprise AI teams to deliver measurable and sustainable value. You shape a prioritized portfolio of AI use cases aligned with business strategy and site priorities, assess opportunities, define objectives, roadmaps, resources, benefits, and success measures. You lead design, development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement of AI, machine learning, optimization, computer vision, and geospatial analytics solutions. You enable applications such as exploration targeting, geological interpretation, resource estimation support, mine planning optimization, drilling and blasting optimization, fleet productivity, ore tracking, and real‑time decision support. You ensure solutions are production‑ready, scalable, maintainable, and explainable. You partner with geology, mine planning, technical services, operations, maintenance, and safety teams to apply predictive and prescriptive analytics, improving discovery targeting, orebody understanding, plan compliance, equipment utilization, cycle times, material movement, productivity, and cost performance. You integrate AI with geoscience platforms, mine planning systems, fleet management, OT, historians, asset platforms, enterprise applications, and digital twins, working with Enterprise AI and MLOps teams to use approved platforms, reusable components, deployment pipelines, and monitoring capabilities. You embed AI outputs into workflows, lead user engagement, change management, training, and knowledge transfer, and track realized benefits against safety, discovery, planning, production, productivity, reliability, cost, and sustainability measures. You lead and develop a multidisciplinary team, set priorities, standards, expectations, and development plans, and build capability through coaching, communities of practice, external partnerships, and knowledge transfer. You ensure solutions comply with safety, cybersecurity, data and model governance, responsible AI, quality, and operational risk requirements, and manage activities within scope, budget, schedule, quality, and performance expectations, maintaining accurate documentation and stakeholder communication.

• Proficient in data analytics and artificial intelligence

• knowledge of Exploration & Mining AI strategy and portfolio management
• experience developing and deploying AI solutions in exploration or mining environments
• experience leading multidisciplinary teams
• knowledge of predictive and prescriptive analytics
• proficient in time‑series analysis
• proficient in natural language processing, large language models, and generative AI
• experience in predictive maintenance and equipment health monitoring
• knowledge of geoscience platforms, mine planning systems, fleet management, operational technology, and digital twins
• proficient in MLOps practices, model monitoring, and lifecycle management
• knowledge of responsible AI, cybersecurity, data governance, and operational risk
• experience delivering business value, benefits tracking, and performance reporting
• experience in team leadership and stakeholder management
• Bachelor’s degree in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, Geomatics, Industrial Engineering, or related field
• Master’s preferred
• 10+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in AI and advanced analytics.
