Laboratory Specialist

Job description

The job includes providing consistent, personalized care to patients and their families, treating people with dignity, compassion and respect. Duties also include providing education and resources to patients' families and residents to provide optimal support to promote recovery. Must read and apply all department and hospital procedures and policies, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, quality assurance and control program, safety, infection control and environmental standards in performing specimen testing. It also includes performing manual and automatic procedures in the laboratory, and assisting the supervisor in performing, directing and organizing the tasks of technological personnel in the laboratory. In addition, must ensure adequate supplies are available at all times, maintain inventory, ensure all equipment in the department is operating properly, and perform regular equipment maintenance. Must participate in educational programs and events at the hospital, assist the supervisor in verifying the accuracy of established laboratory reports, record all quality control data, analyze data results, and implement corrective actions in consultation with the department supervisor. Must also assist the supervisor in ensuring effective communication between employees and management, and providing periodic reports on activities and statistics as required

Requirements

• Qualification: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in laboratory science, biology or chemistry
• Skill: Experience working within scientific laboratories and using equipment
• Skill: Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety and quality protocols
• Skill: Preparing samples for testing
• Skill: Apply safety procedures in the laboratory
• Skill: Use of chemical analysis equipment
